Education in Agronomy at ESALQ-Universidade de São Paulo (1983), MSc in Sciences from CENA-Universidade de São Paulo (1988) and Ph.D in Plant Biology from Rutgers University-NJ/EUA (1994). Develop research in the area of Plant Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. The main projects are on Genetic Transformation of nucleus and chloroplast, Bioenergy, Functional genomics of candidate genes related to biotic stress and Biotechnology. The main crops of interest are sugarcane, citrus, duckweed and teak.
