Abstract

Abstract Television series have been standing out as a currently popular option of recreation for people of different ages, and especially among students. Faced with this situation, this study aims to approach the advantages of the usage of such material for the teaching of German language’s linguistic, ideological, social-political and sociocultural aspects. The following article is a fragment of a research that is still being developed, and in it we will highlight the Deutschland 83 series. The importance of using authentic materials to teach language, and the necessity of teaching techniques that focus on the culture behind such language will be emphasized. Finally, the study concludes that serialized television shows are a material with a great potential to be explored, for it allows the student to get closer to German language and culture, at the same time that provides the student with material to cause him to reflect about his own reality.
