Abstract

The influence of chromium concentration and partial crystallization on the corrosion resistance of the FeCrNiB amorphous alloys was investigated. The samples were produced by melt-spinning equipment. Vacuum heat treatments were used for partial and total crystallization. The study methods used were: X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, transmission electron microscopy, and electrochemical tests in high salt concentration media. The results revealed that the concentration of chromium in FeCrNiB amorphous alloys could be reduced significantly, still providing passive film stability. They also show that partial crystallization of FeCrNiB alloys may not be deleterious to the corrosion properties, opening important possibilities for the development of high-performance coatings.
