Abstract

We investigate the sensitivity of the projected TeV muon collider to the gauged L-mu - L-tau model. Two processes are considered: Z'-mediated two-body scatterings mu(+)mu(-) -> l(+)l(-) with l = mu or tau and scattering with initial state photon emission, mu(+)mu- -> gamma Z', Z' -> l (l) over bar, where l can be mu, tau, or nu(mu/tau). We quantitatively study the sensitivities of these two processes by taking into account possible signals and relevant backgrounds in a muon collider experiment with a center-of-mass energy root s = 3 TeV and a luminosity L = 1 ab(-1). For two-body scattering, one can exclude Z' masses M-Z' less than or similar to 100 TeV with O(1) gauge couplings. When M-Z' less than or similar to 1 TeV < root s, one can exclude g' greater than or similar to 2 x 10(-2). The process with photon emission is more powerful than the two- body scattering if M-Z' < root s. For instance, a sensitivity of g' similar or equal to 4 x 10(-3) can be achieved at M-Z' = 1 TeV. The parameter spaces favored by the (g - 2)(mu) and B anomalies with M-Z' > 100 GeV are entirely covered by a muon collider. (AU)
