Abstract

Drone-borne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is becoming a powerful remote sensing tool for subsoil tomography. Two challenging aspects need to be considered: the development of processing techniques for complex subsoil tomography tasks and the reduction in volume and weight of the SAR system. These challenges will be addressed through two key applications. The first aspect will be exemplified by describing the identification of ant nests in the subsoil of an industrial forest using an electromagnetic-based P-band SAR approach. The second will be tackled by presenting the optimized design of an L-band polarimetric conformal antenna. (AU)
