Abstract

Transonic flows at high Reynolds numbers can lead to high dynamic pressures and, consequently, aerostructural deflections of the aircraft structures, mainly in the wings. In this work, the in-house Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code, BRU3D, and previously developed fluid-structure interaction (FSI) tools are tested for different loading conditions using the High Reynolds Number Aero-Structural Dynamics (HIRENASD) model. The work also investigates the effects of grid refinement on the improvement of the correlation obtained with the results of the present simulations and the experimental and computational data available from the AIAA Aeroelastic Prediction Workshop (AePW). Comparisons are made in terms of aerodynamic coefficients and wing structural deflections. (AU)
