Abstract

The experimental characterization of semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA) as an alternative to enhance the performance of passive optical networks (PON) is presented. By integrating SOAs on the network topology, one can significantly improve signal quality, increase user capacity, and expand network coverage. This study highlights the potential of SOAs to transform optical network infrastructure, meeting the growing market demand. (AU)
