Developing faculty and student collaboration for design and control of ventilation in swine facilities

Abstract

Ventilation systems for animal production is a key factor for optimal animal productivity and labor health. Ventilation provide reduction of hazardous gases, particulate matter, odor, gaseous contaminants, and also provide uniformity af lemperature e humidity. Ventilation performance prediction, for design and evaluation, can optimize lhe air exchange for animal buildings and improve animal welfare, production and economic efficiency. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a powerful tool for ventilation performance prediction. This proposal aims to expand the collaboration of graduate students and professors of UNICAMP from the Department of Agricultural Engineering, and students and professors of lhe University of IlIinois Urbana-Champaign, through the development and validation of a CFD models, for swine facililies.
