Abstract

BIOTA-FAPESP Program, regarded as one of the largest research programs related to biodiversity conservation in Brazil, has generated an extensive database, which subsidizes actions related to management and conservation of specific areas of São Paulo State. Actions directed to the use and dissemination of data generated by BIOTA Program in basic education schools may be an alternative so that the project results may reach not only conservation areas, but also people who live in them and elsewhere. This research project proposes the use of the BIOTA Program database as base for the preparation of teaching materials, which will promote discussions about biodiversity and its conservation, exploring curricular insertion possibilities in basic education, having as an opportunity new educational demands regarding the promotion of a sustainable future.
