CO2 as a raw material for hybrid multi-functional materials: improving the sustainability of industrial processes

Abstract

The importance of the use of carbon dioxide it is twofold: a- Mitigation of the Global Warming; b- CO2 is an abundant, cheap, non-toxic, easily handled, and stored resource. The aim of this proposal is to improve the sustainability of Industrial process, such as Biorefinary, Cement and Fertilizer Industries. It is intended to explore the reaction of CO2 to bis-and poly epoxides in order to obtain bis-and poly-cyclic ciclocarbonatos (CC) precursors that subsequently will be used in the production of hybrid hidroxyurethanes as well as their nanocomposite with potential application as antifungal, photochromic films, supports for photocatalysts.
