Abstract

The present project aims to develop a calcium phosphate-based particle with chlorhexidine incorporation to be used in polymeric materials for dental use, in this project the main focus will be on restorative composites, but the particle can be used for any polymeric material such as sealants, resin cements and sealing cements. The project will consist of five phases, with phase 1 aimed at the synthesis and characterization of the DCPD/CHX particle. Phase 2 aims to determine the largest possible amount of these nanoparticles to be incorporated into a restorative composite without affecting the physicochemical properties. Phase 3 aims to verify the ability of this composite to release calcium and phosphate ions, as well as its antibacterial activity. Phase 4 aims to evaluate a hybrid material (containing conventional silanized inorganic fillers and bioactive DCPC/CHX fillers) regarding its physicochemical properties, ion release and antibacterial activity. Phase 5 aims to verify if the developed composite has the ability to reduce demineralization when subjected to acid challenges and S.mutans biofilm growth. For each of the phases the quantitative data will be analyzed according to the normality and homoscedasticity of the data. (AU)
