Abstract

The project aims to study a fundamental aspect of maritime culture since the beginning of modern times, namely the question of the language of men engaged in the maritime world of labor. First of all, we look at the Dicionário de marinha, made by the retired Rear Admiral Carlos Diniz and drawn up in 1913. It is an unpublished manuscript, which we intend to transcribe integrally, preparing an edition with critical and explanatory notes, preceded by analytical studies of the manuscript. Then, the project has an intention to be fulfilled in a longer term, which is to offer conditions for the gathering, diffusion and analysis of important sources for the study of Maritime History in the Portuguese-Brazilian world, starting with the Dicionário of Diniz (AU)
