Abstract

The objective of this work is to characterize Biomphalaria tenagophila, B. occidentalis and B. t. guaibensis, which make up the tenagophila complex, with the aid of morphological and molecular taxonomy and provide subsidies for the knowledge of kinship relations among the species involved. The study area covers water collections of municipalities inserted in the hydrographic basins of Alto Tietê (São Paulo), Guaíba (Rio Grande do Sul), Litorânea (Rio Grande do Sul) and Uruguay (Rio Grande do Sul). The collection of molluscs will be carried out between August 2018 and January 2019. A detailed study of the conquiliology, conquiliometry, external morphology, radular apparatus, reproductive system and excretory organs will be carried out. The structures that integrate the region of the vagina and the penis complex will be described microanatomically. The morphological characters will be evaluated and the molecular markers of systematic value will be characterized to delimit the positioning of B. tenagophila, B. occidentalis and B. t. guaibensis within the tenagophila complex. The project will increase the knowledge about the group's systematics, allowing the correct identification of the snails, the recognition of the areas favorable to schistosomiasis and the delimitation of regions at risk of introduction or expansion of schistosomiasis.
