Abstract

When gum-resin extracted from Pinus trees is treated by destilation, two components are yield:1 Pitch (resinic acids and fatty acids -70-80% of resin) 2. Turpentine (major formed by alpha- ad beta-pinene-20-30%). alpha- ad beta-Pinene are monoterpenic molecules which may suffer isomerizatio, hidration and esterification reactions to afford canfene or limonene, terpenic alcohols (alpha-terpineol) and terpenyl acetate, respectively. Theses products are of great importance in the production of fragrance, solvent, desinfectant, soaps, paints and coatings,...In this project our goals are evaluate the influence of sound waves (generated in ultrasonic equipment) on the reactions of isomerization, hydration and direct esterification of pinenes to generate different terpene compounds of great economic value. Homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts were made in this study. (AU)
