Abstract

Global climate change poses a major threat to agricultural production and food security worldwide and especially in the tropics. Research and development efforts deploying advanced biotechnology tools for the genetic adaptation of crops to the underlying stresses are greatly concentrated in agricultural biotechnology transnationals. This proposal calls for an initiative jointly supported and staffed by EMBRAPA and UNICAMP and built upon a national and international network for the creation and long-term operation of a plant biotechnology pipeline to foster innovation and transfer of resulting biotechnological assets of climate change adaptation to society through the agricultural sector.
