Abstract

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is at increased risk with aging, with a special increase in postmenopausal women, when they occupy the first place as a cause of mortality. On the other hand, with the increased life expectancy of women treated for breast cancer, similarly those without cancer, the risk of death from CVD increases. Vitamin D deficiency and the increase in the prevalence of obesity are considered important public health issues, being directly related to the increase in the mortality rate due to CVD and breast cancer. Several studies have reported high frequency of hypovitaminosis D in patients with breast cancer. The relevant role played by the vitamina D on bone mass is well defined, however, extra bone effects of vitamin D on breast cancer are under current investigation. The proposed study will be to recognize the role of vitamin D in breast cancer. As well as the association between breast cancer and chronic noncommunicable diseases such as metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease. The literature lacks well-designed studies targeting postmenopausal women, an important risk group for hypovitaminosis D, cardiovascular disease and breast cancer, in order to evaluate the relationship between serum levels of Vitmin D and breast cancer.
