Abstract

Aiming to get assistance on 7 different research projects, we propose in this activities plan entitled "Development and characterization of nanoparticle biomaterials for therapeutic and diagnostic applications in Medicine" to bring Dr. Katesh V. Katti, professor of University of Missouri (Columbia, United States) and director of the Institute of Green Nanotechnology of the aforementioned university. All the activities will be performed at the Institute for Energetic and Nuclear Research - IPEN/CNEN, more specifically at the Center of Chemistry and Environment (CEQMA), São Paulo - SP, Brazil. The seven projects that should count with the expertise of Dr. Katti are entitled as follows: 1. Advanced, low-cost and highly absorbent patches based on hydrogel with silver nanoparticles (financed by IPEN/ Sibratecnano/ FINEP/ JHS); 2. The effect of gamma radiation on the crosslinking, sterilization, and formation of silver nanoparticles on gels for neglected diseases (post doctorate financed by CNEN); 3. Nanostructured systems based on proteins induced by radiation as chemotherapeutics carriers (post doctorate financed by Fapesp); 4. Tumor ablation using ionizing radiation and pd and au nanoparticles in melanoma and hepatocellular carcinoma in vitro and in vivo (post doctorate financed by Fapesp); 5. Development of nanostructured systems for the increase of efficacy of chemo- and immunotherapy for bladder cancer (doctorate financed by IPEN/CNEN); 6. Evaluation of radiolabeled protein nanoparticles targeted to breast tumors as potential theranostic agents (doctorate financed by CNPq); and 7. Development of gold nanoparticle for therapy and diagnostics of cancer using green nanotechnology (doctorate financed by CAPES). Taken into consideration that Dr Katti is considered the "Father of Green Nanotechnology", his contributions for the improvement of the metallic and protein nanoparticles developed at CEQMA are significantly valuable and important for the research group to thrive, as well as for an improved quality of the nanoparticle and hydrogel products produced bu the different research lines. Furthermore, the researcher will also take part as a lecturer of the International Nuclear Atlantic Conference - INAC 2019, from Oct. 21 to Oct. 25, 2019 in Santos - SP, as well as a lecturer in hospitals for spreading the research and search for partners for clinical tests.
