Abstract

Pyoderma is one of the most common skin problems in the veterinary clinic, it is usually superficial and secondary to some systemic or local alteration in the skin, and may become chronic and difficult to control in some cases. Bacterial isolates resistant to conventional treatments and the possibility of transmission to humans require more attention to this issue. The present project aims to develop fast acting products based on antiseptic actives for the treatment of pyoderma in dogs and cats, aiming the conscious use of this type of product in order to preserve its effectiveness. The project provides the development of shampoo formulations, based on new principles and old ones also, with some possible associations according to the desired indications. Which will be latter evaluated in vitro for their safety and efficacy and subsequently evaluated in experimental animals. Differentiated and innovative formulations will most likely lead to faster healing, becoming a superior option to the usual prescribed chlorhexidine baths. We aim to obtain products of high added value not only for its formulation and effectiveness, but also for the knowledge that it brings. (AU)
