Abstract

The research and scientific production developed by Prof. Dr. J. Albanese are world references in the area of Forensic Anthropology. They are related to the methods and techniques applied in sex and stature estimation in the process of analysis of the osteological remnants coming from archaeological and forensic contexts. The protocol of the biological profile analysis of the GTP (Grupo de Trabalho Perus), prepared in conjunction with the EPAF (Peruvian Team of Forensic Anthropology), which have been used since 2014, employs two of the methods proposed by Prof. Albanese; one for the estimation of sex, and the other for the determination of the stature of the individuals. In August of 2017, invited by Professor Cláudia Regina Plens,Prof. Dr. John Albanese was on a 10-day visit to the CAAF, where he got to know the research projects developed at the Center. He also gave lectures in the specialization course in Forensic Anthropology and Human Rights, coordinated by Profa. Dra. Claudia R. Plens. During his stay in São Paulo, Prof. Albanese, attending a greater number of an interested public in his researches and methods, also ministered a conference at the Museum of Archeology and Ethnology of the University of São Paulo. Therefore, the present research project that will be developed by Prof. Dr. John Albanese as LEA / UNIFESP Visiting Professor, aims to initiate the partnership that is being built between the two university institutions, UNIFESP and the University of Windsor, aiming to improve and discuss the procedures used in the osteological analyzes from contexts forensic and archaeological in Brazil, against the international standards of Forensic Anthropology, which is being developed in LEA / UNIFESP, "Re-evaluating methods of determining the biological profile from the estimation of sex and stature in forensic and archaeological cases" being developed in the LEA / UNIFESP, under the coordination of Profa. Dr. Cláudia Regina Plens and with support from the Center for Humanitarian Resources and Human Rights of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and the Center for Excellence in Forensic Technology of the National Institute of Justice and RTI International. In this project, some of the methods developed by Professor Albanese are in the protocol that seeks validation for the Brazilian population In addition, the activities planned for the Visiting Professor period include training workshops on the application of more recent and more appropriate methods to forensic cases and archaeological contexts, resulting from the practical work in the field and laboratory and from the most recent researches developed by Prof. . Albanese. (AU)
