Abstract

This proposal fits into the Priority Theme of this public notice: 10. Other researches that help the effectiveness of the management of Conservation Units, in line with the Aichi Goals. Between 2015-2018, this team conducted participatory ethnobotanical surveys in the Quilombos da Fazenda and Cambury, which occupy an area of Serra do Mar State Park (PESM), Picinguaba Nucleus, Ubatuba, S.P., Brazil. As a continuity of that project and meeting the local demands of both these communities and the management of the PESM, this proposal aims to contribute to the promotion of local development through the sustainable use of Atlantic Forest plants, with the active participation of these local communities, from two specific objectives: 1) Generate a document with "Recommendations of Good Management Practices for Sustainable Extraction of Taboa (Typha domingensis Pers. - Typhaceae)"; and 2) Making the production of phytocosmetics using Atlantic Forest plants and considering their sustainability. A team of 17 members (researchers and students from universities, Conservation Units [UCs] managers and quilombos residents) and using methods from their respective expertise: phytosociology, chemistry, forest and environmental engineering, conservation biology, ethnobotany and media , will promote the development of activities listed in this proposal. It is expected from this proposal that: 1) the document containing the cattail management plan makes the extraction and trade of this plant within the legality feasible, and also considering the creation of a green seal; 2) that new phytocosmetics may feature among Atlantic Forest products to be marketed in the medium term and 3) that the booklets, brochures, classes and videos developed by us replicate this experience with other communities and UCs.
