Abstract

The aim of this project is to develop a biomaterial produced by decellularization of bovine placentas that can be used as a bone graft after osteogenic differentiation of cultured canine mesenchymal stem cells. For this, canine mesenchymal cells will be enzymatically isolated from adipose tissue and in parallel the bovine placenta will be decellularized. After the placenta decellularization process, this biomaterial will be recelularized with canine mesenchymal cells and experiments will be conducted in order to establish the best cell density per gram of placental biomaterial, being the main challenge of this phase. After stablished the cell density, the osteogenic differentiation test of mesenchymal cells will be performed in cultured cells over the biomaterial. As a result, it is expected to obtain a bone graft, with the possibility of using autologous cells reducing immunorejection problems and facilitating healing process; in addition has a lower cost when compared to biomaterials produced by completely synthetic molecules and / or polymers. Therefore, this unique product can leverage the success of this company (still under implementation) and successfully enter the veterinary regenerative medicine market. (AU)
