Effect of physical exercise in attenuating the imbalance of Th17/Treg responses in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Abstract

Previous studies have shown that failure to control the inflammatory process associated with T helper (Th17) / regulatory T (Treg) response imbalance contributes to the progression of COPD. We also present the importance of intracellular signaling mediated by STAT (Activator of Transcription Protein) and SOCS (Suppressor Of Cytokine Signaling) proteins in this process. Since the role of physical exercise in controlling the inflammatory process in COPD has been observed, we will aim to evaluate the effect of physical exercise on the modulation of the inflammatory response, mediated by Th17 / Treg responses in COPD patients, advancing the understanding of signaling. intracellular tissue for Th17 and Treg differentiation. The effect on clinical symptoms and quality of life of these patients will also be evaluated. Methods: 55 patients with severe to very severe COPD will be divided into 2 groups: physical exercise (aerobic and resistance) or placebo exercise (breathing and stretching). The interventions will be performed 3 times / week, 60 minutes / session for 2 months. Before and after the interventions, aerobic capacity (cardiopulmonary test), clinical COPD control (QCC), quality of life (CRQ), dyspnea symptoms (mMRC) and pulmonary function (spirometry) will be evaluated. serum analysis of cell subtypes (Th17 and Treg); TNF-±, IL-6, IL-17, IL-10, IL-1², IL-1ra and TGFbeta cytokines of the STAT 3, STAT5, SOCS1 and SOCS3 proteins and gene expression for ROR-yt, FOXP3, STAT 3, STAT5, SOCS1 and SOCS3.
