Abstract

Salmonella enterica is an important animal and human pathogen and its control is essential in the public health. Monitoring the appearance and characteristics of highly pathogenic and more invasive strains is one of the important aspects of this control. In addition, using molecular biology techniques, S. enterica can be attenuated and modified to carry heterologous molecules, with applications in the development of antitumor therapies or vaccines. Based on the above, this project aims, through microbiological approaches, genomics and molecular biology techniques, to study different aspects of the biology of S. enterica, as well as to explore its biotechnological potential in the development of strains and OMVs with antitumor and vaccine properties, the latter applied in the development of a vaccine platform, using COVID-19 as a model. The project is subdivided into 4 subprojects: (1) Characterization of the resistance and genomic profiles of Salmonella enterica Typhimurium, I 4, [5] 12: i: - and subspecies diarozonae and salamae; (2) Additional characterizations of gene function in S. enterica ”ybaB mutants; (3) S. enterica and OMVs as anti-tumor agents; (4) RASV and OMVs as carriers of the SARS-CoV-2 virus antigen. The project will contribute with new data on the biology of S. enterica and the exploration of its potential in the treatment of tumors and in the development of vaccines. (AU)
