The high resolution record of the deglacial in the northern inner continental shelf of the State of São Paulo

Abstract

The northern inner continental shelf of the State of São Paulo is favorable for developing areas with high rates of muddy Holocene sedimentation due to the existence of an irregular coastline and a set of islands that attenuate the action of waves on the area. The area is bordered by Serra do Mar in its coastal limit, characterized by high rainfall and great potential for landslides and the export of heterogeneous sedimentary material towards the coastline. From a hydroclimatic point of view, this sector of the São Paulo platform is under the South Atlantic Convergence Zone (SACZ) domain, which is an essential factor in the modulation of SAMS. In this sense, the northern continental shelf of the state of São Paulo presents itself as a highly favorable environment for the recognition of oceanographic and climatic variability, along the last deglacial, particularly along the Holocene.
