Abstract

We intend to investigate at the University of São Paulo Pelletron Laboratory, the dynamics of reactions involving light heavy-ions by employing techniques which allow a precise determination os mass and atomic number of the reaction products, as well as the detection at forward angles with a low energy threshold. In order to do this, we intend to install a beam pulsing system with well defined time characteristics and good energy resolution and beam intensity. A large volume multi-purpose scattering chamber has been built and several detectors for charged particles (telescopes with gas, Si and CsI detectors and multiwire position sensitive detectors) and gamma rays (BaF2 detectors) have been built and purchased in order to provide a more suitable way of obtaining good quality data for investigating the various mechanisms present in the nuclear interactions. The emphasys will be given to the study of fusion-fission processes in terms of time-scales and the competition between the various processes. (AU)
