Formulation of tailor-made enzymatic consortiums for the degradation of the cell wall of sugarcane varieties

Abstract

The INCT-Bioethanol has made significant progress in studies of the composition of the sugarcane cell wall in recent years, providing important information on the structure of polymers and how enzymes access the wall during hydrolysis, aiming to increase cellulose conversion and hemicellulose into monosaccharides. The present proposal aims to integrate this knowledge to develop enzymatic consortiums containing free and immobilized enzymes to hydrolyze the biomass obtained from hybrid varieties of sugarcane Energia and SP80-3280. To enable the execution of this work plan, considering its scope and goals, this proposal is based on three main stages: I) formulating tailor-made enzymatic consortia from recombinant holocellulases for application in the hydrolysis of sugarcane varieties of sugar; II) preparing new nanoporous magnetic supports from biodegradable matrices, such as starch and cellulose; III) co-immobilize holocellulases on different supports and apply the different immobilized formulations in the hydrolysis of sugarcane varieties. It is expected to obtain different formulations of enzymes with high efficiency in the hydrolysis of the biomass of sugarcane varieties, as well as for other grasses under study within the INCT-Bioethanol.
