Abstract
In this big proposal ("TEMATICO") we are asking to obtain funds for: a) Workstation COMPAQ-Alpha, allowing fast computations, and providing disk space, which are to be used by the proponents, their graduate students, undergraduate students, pos-doctoral researchers, and visiting professors; b) Grants for collaborations and observations within Brazil, including per diem for collaborators coming to São Paulo, travel and per diem for the proponents to go to other Astronomy Centers in Brazil and to go for observing runs at LNA (Laboratório Nacional de Astrofísica), and travel. And per diem for brazilian collaborators from other centers to come to São Paulo. The Scientific aims consist in accomplishing work on the fields in which the proponents have been. active up to now, and to be able to face the new pace of observational facilities and computational needs: a) high-resolution spectroscopy of bulge stars (clusters and field), ultra metal-poor stars in the halo, barium stars, yellow supergiants, Li-rich stars, and hot (A,B) stars; b) low-resolution spectroscopy for the search of ultra metal-poor stars, studies of faint bulge stars, and the study of stellar populations of the Galaxy; c) imaging of bulge globular clusters, and globular clusters in nearby galaxies; d) construction "and use of a grid of synthetic spectra covering the wavelength region 0.3 - 2 um, for population synthesis and the study of composite spectra of globular clusters and galaxies with absorption lines (bulges of spirals and elliptical and lenticular galaxies).
