Abstract

Dozens of different MCDM (multi-criteria decision-making) methods have been successfully applied to solve problems in various areas such as Administration, Computing, Engineering, and Health, among others. AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) is one of the most applied MCDM methods worldwide. The researcher responsible for this research project has previously successfully applied the AHP method in his master's, doctoral, and post-doctoral research. However, the study of applications of the AHP method is still a frequent topic of national and international research. One of the justifications is that the method can be applied with different techniques such as AM (absolute measurement) or RM (relative measurement), and IS (ideal synthesis) or NS (normal synthesis). The initial questions that this research project aims to answer are: Which technique is recommended for solving a type of decision problem? Was or is the method being properly applied? An example of a situation that we intend to investigate is RR (ranking reversal). RR occurs when, for example, when an alternative is eliminated, the result of the application changes. There are practical problems in which RR is legitimate; There are other cases in which RR should be avoided. Applying the AHP method with RM and NS, RR is allowed. On the other hand, the AHP application with AM and IS avoids RR. The general objective of this research project is to develop guidelines for applying AHP to solving problems in supply chain management and energy management, the researcher's main themes. We intend to achieve this objective by combining three research methods: literature review, case studies, and mathematical modeling. Public or private companies located in the Paraíba do Sul River Valley, in the State of Sao Paulo, should be the initial object of the research. (AU)
