Support for the Animal Experimentation Unit and increase in the computational capacity of the Boldrini Research Center

Abstract

The research carried out in Experimental Oncology has a strong demand for animal tumor models. In parallel, the growing use of omics technologies generates a considerable volume of data, whose analysis and digital storage become a constant challenge. The resources from the institutional technical reserve will be directed to the infrastructure of the Boldrini Research Center, which concentrates the research activities of the Boldrini Children's Center. The two intended uses address the previously mentioned demands:I. Animal facility: acquisition of a gradual freezing system for cryopreservation of sperm and embryos from mouse strains that are not being used in ongoing research projects. The purchase of the equipment will allow the storage of all acquired strains. As a consequence, there will be a direct impact on the cost of maintaining the breeding, with savings in personnel, feed, wood shavings and other items used in animal breeding and maintenance. Furthermore, it will free up space in racks for the animals that are being used in the projects. Cost: R$165,900.00II. Data processing and storage: resizing and maintenance of the network, whose purpose is to serve the various laboratories with regards mainly to the storage of sequencing and methylation data, images and videos arising from in vitro experiments. To this end, a server will be purchased for storage and processing. Cost: R$120,097.03 (AU)
