Evaluation of an intervention aimed at child development surveillance using the Caderneta da Criança in two Brazilian municipalities

Abstract

The study is focused on the evaluation of an intervention on child development surveillance by health professionals from Primary Health Care. This is a mixed methods implementation study, structured in the phases: [i] development of the theoretical basis; [ii] interviews with managers; [iii] explanatory study comprising the development of health professionals' awareness of ID surveillance; [iv] evaluative study that will consist of evaluating the effectiveness of the intervention through a cluster randomized trial. The intervention consists of a series of training and awareness-raising actions, in person (8 hours) and remotely (12 hours). Outcomes of the RE-AIM (Reach Effectiveness Adoption Implementation Maintenance) model will be evaluated after the intervention, using a qualitative approach. The effectiveness of the intervention will be analyzed by comparing the outcomes "assessment of ID milestones" and "guidance on ID offered to families", before and after the intervention. Multivariate analysis techniques will be used, applying Poisson regression models with robust variance, considering the sample design. Qualitative data will be analyzed systematically and will be presented in accordance with the Consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research (COREQ). (AU)
