Service Learning as a strategy to reduce teenagers' vulnerabilities

Abstract

This proposal is linked to the 3rd and 4th Sustainable Development Goals of United Nations Organization (Good health and well-being and Quality education) and aims to contribute to improving the quality of public education in the state of São Paulo. The aim is to raise and discuss issues relevant to adolescence, such as sexuality and consumption of alcohol and/or other drugs among high school students from two state public schools, located in São José do Rio Preto. The Service Learning methodology will be used as a pedagogical strategy to promote the protagonism of adolescents, as they will be the multiplier agents of knowledge among their peers. The development of the project will be through action research, articulating two teachers from the schools, ten undergraduate students and two graduate students. The project has been running, as an extension, since 2015 in the schools where this proposal will be implemented. This project is organized into seven steps: (1) planning, (2) training, (3) diagnosis, (4) data analysis, (5) intervention, (6) evaluation, (7) socialization/dissemination. It is hoped that this proposal would help teenagers live their experiences with awareness of the importance of taking care of themselves and their peers. And let it be an example for other schools to promote educational actions, placing students as protagonists who disseminate scientific information on adolescent health. (AU)
