Omics Sciences applied to Immunometabolism exercise and nutrition

Abstract

The principal aim of the project is to examine how regular physical exercise impacts immunometabolic profiles and how these changes influence the function of natural killer (NK) cells. Through comprehensive analysis of metabolic pathways, gene expression patterns, and functional assays, we aim to reveal the specific metabolic adaptations and remodelling processes in NK cells that contribute to their potent antitumour activity in individuals who have maintained a lifelong exercise training regimen. The working hypothesis was that lifelong exercise could improve the metabolism of immune cells, particularly NK cells, thereby enhancing their effector function and potentially creating a tumour-suppressive metabolic environment.
