EMU: Replacement of the Transmission Electron Microscope at the IBILCE/UNESP Multi-User Center for Microscopy and Microanalysis

Abstract

In our multi-user microscopy and microanalysis center, Transmission Electron Microscopy has been an extremely important tool in the diverse areas of biological, medical and materials science. In general, researchers at our Institute have accumulated experience using this equipment, mainly in collaborations, in Brazil and abroad. Furthermore, many sample evaluation services for companies and laboratories in the region have used this equipment, which has been extremely uncomfortable due to the lack of operation of our MET-Zeiss EM910, equipment from our Multi-User Center obtained with FAPESP resources almost two decades ago. The acquisition of a new, more modern transmission electron microscopy equipment, to replace the IBILCE/UNESP Multiuser Microscopy Center in São José do Rio Preto, will benefit multiple ongoing or recently concluded research projects, with funding from FAPESP (8 current projects at FAPESP are associated with this proposal), in different areas of knowledge. Furthermore, this equipment will make a difference in the quality of service provided by the multi-user laboratory for the northwest region of São Paulo and other national and international collaborations.
