EMU: Recomposition of biomolecule analysis platforms at Unifesp Diadema campus to form a research network in multi-omics and systems toxicology

Abstract

Unifesp's Diadema campus has a tradition in scientific research involving chemical analysis, materials, biomolecules, cellular and molecular analyses, as well as developing toxicological analyzes of systems; all of this applied in the environmental area, industry and health. To achieve its objectives in basic and applied research, the campus needs small individual equipment that is allocated in laboratories shared between 2 to 4 professors; Furthermore, the campus has a park of large and medium-sized equipment, which is traditionally allocated, according to its nature, on multi-user platforms, some of which have more than 10 years of operating history. Our research is dependent on these operations that work in a multi-user format, which have a consolidated management system, assisted by the Postgraduate and Research Chamber (CaPgPq) for the maintenance of infrastructure and human resources. The Genomics and Proteomics Center (NUGEP) and the Danio rerio Experimental Animal Facility (BEDAR) are a successful example of this type of platform, both of which have been in operation since 2011. This call for Small-Medium Multi-User Equipment (EMU-PMP) - 2023 of Fapesp represents an excellent opportunity to recompose equipment that is obsolete, out of line and/or inoperative due to wear and tear resulting from time of use; as well as representing an opportunity to acquire other equipment that will complement the Diadema campus' multi-user platforms. Namely: MALDI Biotyper sirius RUO and IR Biotyper (Bruker), Äkta Pure 25 T liquid chromatography system (Cytiva), ZEBRABOX behavioral analysis platform from VIEWPOINT. The recomposition and complementation of the equipment of the multi-user platforms NUGEP and BEDAR has the potential to benefit all researchers at Unifesp and those external to this institution and thus implement a cohesive research network that will interconnect the platforms, optimizing the use and exploitation of the proposed equipment in this EMU.
