Development of Technological Processes for the Oil, Natural Gas, and Renewable Energy Sectors

Abstract

The Metropolitan Region of Campinas is composed of 20 municipalities and concentrates approximately 7.5% of São Paulo population. Recognized as an industrial and technological hub, it is home to large companies and important research centers. In addition, it hosts Brazil's largest oil refinery, REPLAN, and plays a central role in the production of biofuels, such as ethanol and biodiesel, consolidating its strategic relevance in the energy sector. When considered together with the Greater São Paulo and Baixada Santista regions, it forms the so-called extended metropolitan complex, which accounts for a significant portion of Brazil's industrial and economic output. Within this context, the School of Chemical Engineering at Unicamp (FEQ/Unicamp), located in the city of Campinas, has stood out since its foundation for its commitment to training highly qualified professionals to meet the demands of the region's industries. With this mission in mind, and building on the expertise developed over years of teaching and research, FEQ/Unicamp proposes the program Technological Process Development for the Oil, Natural Gas, and Renewable Energy Sectors (PETROGREN), aimed at training skilled professionals to work in the Brazilian energy sector. The program seeks to develop professionals with a high level of technical expertise, critical thinking, entrepreneurial spirit, and innovation mindset, prepared to apply the knowledge acquired for the benefit of society. All of this is done with respect for the principles of sustainability, health, safety, and strict compliance with legislation, always guided by ethics and social responsibility. Graduates from this program will be qualified to work in areas such as primary processing, refining, and distribution of oil and its derivatives. Additionally, the program places strong emphasis on training in biofuels and energy storage, providing students with an innovative and entrepreneurial perspective that will enable them to actively contribute to the Brazilian energy sector and to a fair and inclusive energy transition.
