Drug discovery consortium to develop new drugs for the treatment of tropical parasitic diseases

Abstract

This proposal targets activities that would support the continuation of the FAPESP/MMV/DNDi/UNICAMP/USP consortium (MINDI) with the aim of discovering drug candidates for malaria and Chagas disease. The consortium, composed of researchers from the state of São Paulo with a proven track record of producing high-quality research, working in collaboration with scientists experienced in drug discovery from Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi, www.dndi.org) and the Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV, www.mmv.org), was established with the support of FAPESP and today plays a leading role in the field of drug discovery for these diseases in the country. The proposed project aims to strengthen the consortium and identify late leads or candidates for preclinical development, which would represent a great scientific achievement with the potential of a significant positive impact for society.
