Meaning and dialogicity in the network of meanings perspective

Abstract

This project derives from previous thematic projects of the Brazilian Research Centre on Human Development and Early Child Education (CINDEDI -FFCLRP-USP), in which the network of meanings theoretical-methodological perspective (RedSig) was first developed. Based on socio-historical premises, it aims to apprehend the developmental processes, considering a wide range and various levels of factors of semiotic order. These factors Structure, signify and constrain a set of possible actions, emotions and conceptions, defining possibilities and limits to the person's behaviours and development The project general aim is to further develop the RedSig, both as a theoretical proposal to understand human development processes, and as an instrument abIe to guide the researcher's work. The three groups of specific aims are: (1) investigation of two pivotal theoretical questions: - processes of production and transactions of meanings and sense; and - dialogy as constitutive of the subject and his/her development; (2) study of the ample RedSig that pervades the policies and practices of early child education and the policies and practices of adoption; (3) investigation of two theoretical methodological dimensions which emerged in previous studies: - quantitative and qualitative approaches in the study of human development; and - the oppositions between universality/diversity and stability/novelty. The data collection for the construction of the corpus varies according to the object and the questions under study, including interviews, video records, camp diaries, observational records with event or time sample, analysis of public policies documents or of teacher diaries, analysis of texts, etc. The construction of data banks allows diverge analyses by various researchers. The analysis of the corpus focus on the meaning production in interactive situations, trying to apprehend the role/counter-roles or positioning reciprocally attributed/assumed by the persons in here-and-now situations, and the semiotic, discursive socio-historical matrix which impregnates contexts and persons in development. The studies which focus the ample RedSig that pervades diverse processes use a wider approach, mapping the various nets and nodes that weave it. Finally, a principle that guides our project is the permanent dialogue between theory and practice, which results from the involvement of various members of CINDEDI in activities such as the implementation of educational projects, the training of teachers and technicians, the production of scientific-didactic material, among other. Besides its compromise with scientific production, and with practices for the promotion of quality in Early Child Education there is a compromise with good quality initiation and training of around ... new scientists, including bachelors, master, doctorate and post-doc students.
