Abstract

Nuclear Physics has been going through a major evolution over the last decade. The possibility of producing beams of nuclei with excess of protons or neutrons with respect to the stability line (exotic nuclei) opened new fields of research where the nuclear models can be tested at extreme conditions of low binding energy, high angular momentum and high excitation energy. In addition to the impact in fundamental Nuclear Physics, the advent of exotic nuclear beams, permits the experimental study of capture reactions involving nuclei out of the stability line and have major impact in Nuclear Astrophysics.With the installation of the double solenoid system at the pelletron-Linac Laboratory of the University of Sao Paulo, it will be possible the production of secondary beams of light nuclei out of the stability valley and beams of nuclei excited in isomeric states. The collision of these beams with secondary targets allows the study of the structure of unstable nuclei at low energies.The present project will be developed in the areas of nuclear structure, nuclear astrophysics and nuclear reactions using beams of exotic nuclei produced in the pelletron-Linac Laboratory at Sao Paulo.
