Abstract

The phenomenon of lipid transfer between immune and non-immune cells is being characterized by our group (93/03498-4). In this thematic project, we will study: the simultaneous transfer and the intracellular distribution of lipids using fluorescent probes, the mechanism of transfer (covering the passage through membrane, the possible participation of albumin and lipoproteins, the presence of fatty-acid binding proteins - FABP and the formation of vesicles), possible chemical alterations of the groups transferred (formation of trans fatty-acids and oxidation/peroxidation products of the transferred lipids) and effects of the lipids on the metabolism, the functionality and apoptosis of the accepting cells.
