Chemiluminescence and NOx concentration study in ethanol flames

Abstract

The main goal of this purpose is the study of the reaction mehanisms in the NO production and destruction at different ethanol flames due its wide impact on atmosphere and huma health. Ethanol flames are interesting because they are applied to practical combustion devices. Several works have been developed focused on the determination of the NOx formation processes and on the investigation of the ways for NOx reduction. However, there are few studies with ethanol flames. Furthermore, the contribution of the possible reactions to NOx formation and consumption in flames are not still established. Therefore, this project has the aim to investigate the relationship in the reaction mechanisms for chemiluminescent species and NOx production. Chemiluminescence experimental measurements with high spectral resolution of emitter species and laser induced fluorescence measurements to determine NOx concentration with high spatial resolution at different flame regions are the methodologies that will be employed. Thus, on believe in addition to achieve know-how to apply the LIF technique to detect and quantify NO in ethanol flames to associate the formation of chemiluminescent species with NO production in these processes from experimental measurements. These experimental measurements will still allow to fit and validate a reaction mechanism to simulate the ethanol combustion. (AU)
