Abstract

The research here presented is partly the continuation of what was prepared for theDoctorate. Nevertheless, new themes and study areas are being incorporated. We mustnot, therefore, lose sight of the continuity of the acquired knowledge. After havingshown the importance of the railway modal for the national development, we reachedthe conclusion that the methods used by geographers are of vital importance for abetter understanding of the logistic revolution now taking place. One of theobjectives is, therefore, to recover the importance of thetransport-geography-related studies and also of the infrastructures for the regionalattendance, in other words, we are proposing the integration of several branches ofknowledge to solve clear and precise regional development problems. So, we will behaving discussions in reference to the regional theory, regionalizing, urbandevelopment, development axis, and Local Productive Arrangements (APLs). The spatialportion chosen was the region of Ourinhos/SP, a territory depressed and full ofconservative power structures. In this way, the research will follow the followingsteps: Regionalizing Ourinhos based on its productive dynamic and central regionallocation; Identifying the instauration of a development axis through specialinteractions performed through the main federal and state motorways (which sends oneback even to the spatial mobility of the population via inter-municipal transport);the development of trade, services, industry, public transportation and railwaymodal (mid-Sorocabana) and; the urban expansion and the participation in the urbanSão Paulo state and Brazilian networks (it may be interesting to participate of thenew Geography discussions about small and mid-size cities). What we propose then isan analysis of the productive dynamic of the Ourinhos region and the inter-relationswith the other spaces of the Brazilian urban network. Finally, we will analyze theimportance of the Private-Public-Partnerships (PPPs) in the regional development, that is to say, the speech in favor of the PPPs in the Ourinhos regional space willhave to be proven or refuted. We would like to remind that the first federalmotorway awaiting concession through the Private-Public-Partnerships is the BR-153(Trans Brazilian) that runs through the Ourinhos territory. The importance of therailway for the region must also be highlighted. (AU)
