Modernization of the Institutional IT Network to promote IAC research and technology transfer activities

Abstract

Over the 136 years of research activities, the Agronomic Institute has advanced significantly in making cultivars with special characteristics available to the production sector, as a result of its valuable genetic heritage, being a pioneer in the introduction and beginning of genetic improvement of most crops in Brazilian agribusiness. The IAC is a benchmark in the genetic improvement of agricultural plants, while seeking to incorporate modern technologies into its R&D programming, such as digital agriculture and genetic prospecting for important commercial crops, in partnership with national and international networks. In fulfillment of its institutional mission, the IAC also develops technological packages that contribute to raising crop productivity and product quality. The Institute has developed several activities related to environmental sustainability in line with the production of food and energy. Among them, environmental monitoring, studies related to the response to plant-environment interaction, strategies for regionalization and suitability of agricultural crops, recommendations for the sustainable use of water resources, strategies to minimize toxicity by toxic elements to plants, stand out. the integration of more efficient genotypes in the use of nutrients with fertilization management practices, the increase in the tolerance of crops to diseases based on a more balanced supply of nutrients, technologies for the correct application of pesticides, with safety for the rural worker, efficient use of water in spraying and post-harvest technology. In addition to actions aimed at generating science, special attention has been given to the transfer of knowledge and technologies generated to society, as well as the provision of services through laboratory analysis. The technological packages of cultivars developed by the IAC in these 135 years stand out; there are 1,150 cultivars released with the improvement of more than 104 agricultural species that transformed and impacted agriculture in São Paulo and in the country, such as in coffee, sugarcane, citrus, grains and fibers, horticulture, fruit growing, rubber tree and others chains. Of these, 835 were registered with MAPA/RNC and 43 protected with MAPA/SNPC. We can highlight coffee, with 70 cultivars that occupy more than 90% of arabica crops in Brazil, and citrus, with IAC materials present in most orchards in São Paulo and nationwide, demonstrating that research results are transferred to the production sector, generating wealth and quality of life. Thus, the present project, entitled "Modernization of the Institutional IT network" aims to support investments in the infrastructure of the IT network of the IAC research units, located in different cities in the state of São Paulo, providing appropriate conditions for the development of research in various units, adequate support for internal users (employees, interns and graduate students) and external users, as well as improving the management of network environments.
