Abstract

The safety transfusion has been increased in the most blood banks around the world because the transfusion-transmissible virus has been reduced drastically since emerged Aids.In Brazil, the serological screening to HIV-I/II, HCV, HTLV I/II, HBV, Chagas Disease and Syphilis must be done. In spite of that the risk of the transfusion-transmissible pathogens is the most serious worldwide public health problem. The introduction of new pathogens into a previously unexposed population is another difficult situation to maintain the high quality of the blood. Human and birds migration may rapidly spread new agents that were previously restricted in some areas of the world. Arboviruses like Dengue virus e o West Nile Virus (WNV) have a vast global distribution and show intriguing emergence patterns based on ecological changes. Our objective is to evaluate the impact of the presence of these two viruses in the blood donors of the city of Sao Paulo. (AU)
