Abstract

The analysis of wear particles is a strong indicator of tribological interaction where they are formed. The quantity of particles, size, form and composition give us clean information about the surfaces conditions in movement without the necessity of showing the group that these parts belong to. The study of vibrations analysis is another technique used to check the present state of machine and equipments in movement. The present tendency is the utilization, in-group, of both technique of predictive maintenance that was being studied separately. To study the integration efficiency of vibrations analysis with wear particle analysis as predictive maintenance technique, it was built an apparatus formed by an engine linked to a speed reducer. The studies were done with normal operation of the system motor reducer, with the use of inappropriate lubricant and with the presence of contaminants purposely added at the lubricant. This work presents a discussion about the predictive maintenance through vibrations and wear particle analysis and the results in the apparatus. More emphasis was given at the analysis of wear particles in oil samples. However it was also collected vibrations measurement, in the time and in frequency domain and some results are presented too.
