Cambial seasonality, vascular and protective tissues in species from cerrado of São Paulo state

Abstract

The study will be held on shrubs and trees from cerrado of São Paulo state, subdivided in two modules: i) cambial activity and production of secondary xylem and phloem, ii) morphological patterns of the bark. The first module will be held in ten species that were selected because of the well demarcated growth layers on the wood, namely: Annona coriacea Mart. (Annonaceae), Gochnatia barrosi Cabrera e Piptocarpha rotundifolia Baker (Asteraceae), Diospyrus hispida DC. (Ebenaceae), Bowdichia virgilioides Kunth., Machaerium villosum Vog. e Acosmium subelegans Mohlenbr. (Fabaceae-Faboideae), Byrsonima verbascifolia DC. (Malpighiaceae), Roupala montana Aubl. (Proteaceae), Pouteria torta Radlk. (Sapotaceae). The cambial activity will be considered along with the leaf phenology of species and climate variability of the study area. The second module proposes the inventory of morphological diversity of the outer bark of trees and shrub from cerrado in order to systematize the morphological patterns found and to encourage the use of existing terminology and the use of bark features for the identification of taxa. This project continues the Proc. 05/59499-8 and the research that has begun in Proc. 00/12469-3, both from FAPESP and is part of the Research Group of CNPq, certified by UNESP: "Morphology (sensu lato) in cerrado plants".
