Abstract

In malignancies, including mammary, invasion and metastasis are important biological features that have direct influence on patient's prognosis and in choice of therapeutic protocol. In human oncology has been study the involvement of TGFJ3 pathway through the activation of Smad factors in cancer development. TGFp\ previously identified as a regulatory factor and growth cell suppressor, seems to exert a strong influence on progression of certain tumors by suppressing the proteins expression such as p53, p63 and E-cadherin increasing their metastatic potential. This study aims to determine the expression of TGFß and pSmad2, p53, p63 and E-cadherin as prognostic markers in spontaneous mammary tumors in bitches. For this, we will use 40 dogs, with no breed predilection, six years old or more, with or without diagnosis of mammary tumor and four groups of 10 animals each will be formed: G1 = normal breasts, no history of cancer, G2 = benign mammary tumors, G3 = malignant mammary tumors without lymphatic invasion or evidence of metastasis and G4 = malignant mammary tumors with lymphatic invasion and / or distant metastasis. The results will be evaluated for the presence of each marker in, its relation to the tumor's biological behavior, histological type and presentation of recurrence and / or metastasis by the statistical method of analysis of variance. We hope to understand the involvement of these markers in carcinogenesis, metastasis production and provide more data about the prognosis of mammary neoplasms in veterinary medicine. (AU)
