Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the most feared among women, considering its high incidence and the psychological effects on women self-image and sexuality. It is responsible for one of the major death causes among women, and it is observed a marked increase in its incidence both in developed and developing countries. There is a clear relationship between diet and cancer, and some specific food intake and cancer. Flaxseed consumption has been recognized as capable of reducing breast cancer risk. Objectives: To verify the effect of a diet rich in flaxseed on the human breast cancer implanted in female nude mice. Methodology: Human breast cancer (type MCF-7) will be implanted in the adipose tissue of female nude mice breasts. After full development of the tumors (approximately after 7 wks) the animals will be divided into three distinct groups. Brown and Golden flaxseed will be grounded and used in diets to be fed on the mice. Tumor growing of mice from the groups fed on flaxseed diets will be followed during for 4 wks and compared to the control group one. The effect of the diet on tumor growing will be assessed by ANOVA.
