Abstract

Seeking to understand the differences in the dynamic properties between granular materials and liquids, experiments using water and rice and sugar grains will be accomplished. The experiments require few resources and are thought to be developed easily in classroom or in a teaching laboratory. In the last years there has been large experimental and theoretical activity in the study of the proprieties of granular materials. Several static phenomena, as the pressures distribution inside a silo, and dynamic, as the called "Brazil Nut Problem", need a better understanding. We will follow the methodology of trying to compare a set of grains with fluids. We also intend to use ferromagnetic particles to study the influence of internal attractive forces in the grain flow.
