Quantitative study of secretory IgA levels in the colostrum of women who had preterm births with or without urogenital infection

Abstract

The prematurity, in spite of all the advances that have occurred in medicine, it is still a major problem; medical, social, human and economic. The pre-term birth, is associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality maternal-fetal, and the higher incidence of premature morbidity in children, including deficits neurosensory, necrotizing enterocolitis, intraventricular hemorrhage and delays in physical and mental development. Objective: To quantify and compare the levels of total IgAs in colostrum of women who had births-term and pre-term with and without urogenital infection. Subjects and methods: A double-cross sectional study, will test the sIgA total levels in human colostrum, of 50 women who had term birth and 50 at pre-term birth (25 with urogenital infections and 25 without infections). The patients will be matched by age and parity for homogeneity of the groups. The sIgA will be tested sampling the colostrum by manual expression that will be processed by test "Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay (ELISA). The microbiological vaginal analysis will be performed by optical microscopy and hybrid capture for diagnoses of vulvovaginites and endocervicites. The urinary infections will be checked by culture. The statistical analyses will use the chi-square tests and T Student paired. The level of significance will be 5%. The software used for analysis will be the SAS version 9.01. (AU)
