Abstract

This research project is presented to FAPESP in Brazil and to CNRS in France in the scope of the Brazilian-French cooperation program co-financed by the two agencies. As established in the CNRS-FAPESP cooperation convention the project in Brazil is presented as a complementary part of the on-going project entitled "Materials with organized pore structure as hosts for lanthanides" (FAPESP contract number-2008/58339-5) coordinated by Dr. Sidney J.L. Ribeiro. The main goals of the on-going project rely on the general research area of Plasmonics with preparation and characterization of rare earths containing porous materials in the form of thin films for optical amplification in integrated optics. This complementary part deals with the application of the prepared thin films in the achievement of IR pumped ultra-stable Pr3+ visible lasers for Quantum information. The stabilization of such lasers and the application in Quantum Information is the main research activity of the French team in this project. The on-going FAPESP project concerns the exploitation of rare earth induced emission for optical amplification in integrated optics. The further possibility of preparing a ultra-stable laser device adds new functionalities to the prepared materials and, as far as we know from the literature, is something new and original that could be the starting point for future research areas in both Brazilian and French laboratories. As far as we are aware any Brazilian research group is working on similar research subjects and in this sense the students involved will have the special opportunity of starting a new research area.
